QSL Southern Districts Spartans

Southern Districts have an strong history in Basketball Queensland’s State League program (formerly Southern Basketball League). The Queensland State League provides an avenue to high-level competition for young developing players, players at their pinnacle, and players who have stepped down from elite competition. QSL is a strong and competitive league in its own right, and also serves as a key launchpad for young players looking to move into the NBL1 and beyond.

Southern Districts have a variety of teams within the QSL competition including Women’s and Men’s. We host open trials for our QSL program in February and March each year and maintain an elite training program during the off season. For more information contact Rebecca, Coaching Director, at coachingdirector@sdbal.com.au.

CJ Bruton is the Head Coach of the Spartans QSL Men for 2020. As a former professional basketball player in the NBL, CJ is part of the illustrious club to have 6 x NBL Championships as a player over his career. Bruton also represented the Australian Boomers at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and won a Gold Medal as part of the 2006 Commonwealth Games team. CJ’s Spartans connection runs deep and has been a part of the club in a range of capacities as a coach and player. CJ is not only a NBL and Basketball legend in his own right but his ability to get the best out of players is unmatched. It is a honour and privilege to have him involved in our senior program for 2020 and we hope he is able to build a winning culture for our talented roster.
